liner notes:

…Inviting the multifaceted George Lewis to collaborate with them allows the trio to expand their perspective without modifying or compromising it. His expansive résumé is, or should be, well-known, documenting his creativity in jazz, Free Jazz, non-idiomatic improvisation, and electronic programming and composing. In this situation, his subtle electronics color the music as an organic entity; it is often difficult to isolate the electronic timbres from the extended string techniques. His trombone, however, is an intensifying agent in the mix, provocatively distorting the misconception of the trio as limited to “improvisatory chamber music.…”

cd reviews:

Continuing their quest for distinctive improvised sounds, the Kiming-Studer-Zimmerlin string trio delineated this musical combination with American trombonist George Lewis. An early convert to the use of synthesized extensions, Lewis’ live electronics means that the five improvisations here unfold in an uncommon fashion…
…No vapid horn-and-string disc, instead And George Lewis features four mature and cerebral players equally matched as they operate at the top of their game.

Ken Waxman, Jazzworld, 2020

…L’intesa perfetta, quindi, è d’obbligo. Concitato, nervoso ed emozionante, “Kimmig – Studer - Zimmerlin And George Lewis” potrà soddisfare a lungo i vostri ascolti riservandovi sempre nuove sorprese.
Mario Biserni, SandS-zine, 2020

…Swiss-German trio Kimmig-StuderZimmerlin have a streng, unified consort sound, supplemented here by George Lewis an trombone and live electronics. Zimmerlin is both a desk composer and an improvisor, and insists an important equivalences between them. He says that composition and free improvisation are two very different methods with the same aim - "to get as good and as lively a music as possible" - and improvised form "in the end is as convincing as a composed form, but different". That conclusion is borne out by the very thoughtful improvisations here. "Natura Morta" ("Still Life") is a subdued exploration with Lewis an live electronics; the explosive "Very Nice" moves to an thrilling climax, with Lewis prominent an trombone. Electronics are eerily effective an "Seven Calors And Number Ten" where they contrast with the trio's generally dry sonorities.

Pirmin Bossart, Jazz'n'More, 2020

…Drive, passion, brightness and evocative ideas are the main compounds of the newest release by these musicians. All the compositions are based on free improvisation, the fundamental basics of avant-garde jazz, experimental music and the main tendencies of contemporary academical music. The instrumental section is evocative and bright – it’s based on specific, extended, weird, exotic or rare playing techniques brought together with authentic, natural, very well-known ways of playing, special effects, ornaments and coloristics of various ranges.
